Family adventures in Cornwall

Cornwall is the family adventure county. Nowhere else in the UK packs surf beaches, rockpools, castles, cliff walks and pasties into such a compact, child-friendly package. The catch is that everyone knows it — so the best Cornish adventures are about timing and picking the spots the crowds miss.

Jungle walkways, rope bridges, and the famous Mud Maid sculpture. Genuinely engaging for children in a way many gardens are not.

King Arthur legend, a dramatic footbridge between the clifftops, and a cave to explore under the castle at low tide.

Go underground in an 18th-century mine near Land's End. Hard hats provided; the scale of it stays with children for years.

When to go

May, June and September give you Cornwall's beaches without August's crowds and prices. Rockpooling is best on spring low tides year-round; surf is warmest (relatively) in early autumn.
